“Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7, New International Version)
In a recent twelve-step meeting, someone proposed the discussion topic “getting back on the wagon.” This is a frequent topic. We addicts are always prone to messing up. Even those of us who are doing well appreciate the reminder of what happens if we stop doing well.
One fellow in the group said, “When I fell off the wagon, the wagon ran over me!” That is another wonderful reason for staying on the wagon. It is difficult for the wagon to run over you if you’re staying on it.
There are consequences for doing the next wrong thing. Sometimes, some of the consequences take a while to arrive. But the truth is this: At the moment I do the wrong thing, I am immediately living with someone I don’t want to be—myself. The wagon has already rolled over me.
I think I’ll stay on the wagon!
